Frequently asked questions
When can my teen start Driver Education?
The day they turn 15, and no permit is needed to start. Teens who qualify for a Farm Driving Permit can begin at 13½.
How does Driver Ed help my teen get a permit sooner?
Once enrolled in an approved course and finished with the first day of class, teens can get a learner permit at 15 instead of 16. Completing Driver Ed also waives the written knowledge test (except for the Farm Permit).
What's included in Driver Education?
10 hours of classroom instruction (typically over two days) plus a minimum of 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Drive appointments are flexible, and you have one year from your first class to finish.
Can I take my official state road test with you?
Yes! Cowboy Driving Academy and Alert Driving School are authorized by Service Oklahoma to administer the official road test, so there’s no need to schedule separately. Drivers under 18 must bring a printed Work Zone Safe certificate.
Do you offer classes in Spanish?
Yes. We offer classroom driver education and behind-the-wheel training in Spanish. (The State Road Test itself is given in English, and our training prepares students for that.)
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, we offer flexible terms on our educational pricing for families who need a little more time to pay.
Can Defensive Driving remove points or lower my insurance?
Our state-certified 4-hour Defensive Driving course can remove 2 points from your record once every 24 months, may qualify you for ticket dismissal with court approval, and Oklahoma insurers are required to offer a discount for completing it.
